April Disneyland Crowd Calendar
Our April Disneyland Crowd Calendar offers a look at what you can expect April to be like at both Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park. We’ll cover what’s happening at the parks, any holidays or special events and any major refurbishments that might be taking place. As far as crowds go you can expect April to be one of the busier months of the year and not one we recommend.
The weather is going to be fairly nice in April. Expect day-time temperatures to be around the mid-70’s and the night time temperatures to drop into the low 60’s, even upper 50’s. While we all think (and wish) that it’s always going to be sunny and warm in California, this simply isn’t true. For this time of year we always pack a light jacket or sweater to wear in the early morning and evening times. For more details on packing information be sure to read our guide What To Pack For Disney.
Crowds for April are usually not that great and tend to be higher than Jan-March. This is mostly due to heavy Spring Break crowds from both California and surrounding states. Unfortunately California School Districts all seem to be on the same page when it comes to this. They all release their students around the same few weeks and many of them end up at Disneyland because it’s close. If you look at our actual crowd calendar you’ll see that the last 2 full weeks of the month are the craziest. This is when most of the schools are out for Spring Break. If you can avoid these weeks in your planning you’re going to be much better off.
Another draw to Disneyland this month is the Easter Celebration. Although Disney typically doesn’t dress up the parks for this holiday they do offer lots of special activities for it including:
- Special food items and treats.
- Collectible Mickey and Minnie dolls.
- Merchandize including tee-shirts and sweaters.
- Egg-Stravaganza egg hunt at Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park.
You can except more exciting things but these ones can be counted on every year. Because of this there usually is a draw of local residents into the parks, mostly in the evenings and on the weekends. Easter at Disneyland typically doesn’t draw in larger crowds from out of state.
The biggest event that’s going to draw in locals and guests from out of state is going to be the 2019 Food and Wine Festival at Disney California Adventure Park. This annual event draws in a lot of locals for some delicious food and wine tastings. Each marketplace serves a sampling of different food, typically under a theme. Guests can go around sampling all the different types of food and drink. The biggest draw may be the Sip and Savor Pass that’s available to annual passholders who enjoy a discount on food. The crowds for this even tend to be much higher in the evening times and on the weekends.
This year Disneyland is also celebrating Mickey and Minnie in the “Get Your Ears On” celebration. This event has been a cause for higher crowds as the entire resort is celebrating it. Most dining locations are offering limited-time food options as well as collectible items. Limited-time merchandise, parade and nighttime shows are also drawing in guests. This celebration is expected to run through most of May, until the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
Lastly, there is a special ticket offer that’s going on this spring that has been drawing in larger-than-normal crowds. Disney rarely offers a discount on their tickets but this year they decided to (we think to help even out the crowds in anticipation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge). This special offer has been hugely popular because it offers savings of up to $111 per ticket. If you’re planning your trip be sure to visit our trusted partner Get Away Today to purchase your discounted tickets. However, because of April’s spring breaks at the resort, there are a few block-out dates with these tickets so you’ll need to plan accordingly.
As you look over our crowd calendar above keep in mind a few things. The calendar is based off of several things including historical data, special events, celebrations, school breaks and more. The calendar is really good at predicting overall resort crowd levels but of course it’s not 100%. Predicting crowds far in advance is a very hard thing to do especially since we don’t know exact dates concerning openings of attractions and lands. We do however update this page as often as we can to ensure accuracy for our April Disneyland Crowd Calendar.
