May Disneyland Crowd Calendar
Our May Disneyland Crowd Calendar offers a look at what you can expect the month of May to look like for crowds. We break down all the special events, celebrations, attraction openings and even ride closures. All of these things plus a historical look at crowds gives us the information we need to put together our May Crowd Calendar. Overall May usually isn’t a bad month to visit.
Weather at Disneyland during the month of May is typically very nice. Temperatures are usually around the mid-70’s during the day and mid 60’s in the evening. There are some days when it can get up into the 80’s so packing shorts and tee-shirts is not a bad idea at all. We always suggest looking at the weather before you leave on your trip. You don’t want to get caught off guard with a rain storm and not prepared for it. If you want more information on what you should pack read our guide here. Overall you can expect nice warm days at Disneyland during the month of May.
Crowds for May are hit and miss. While school is back in session there are several things being celebrated including Grad Nite and Memorial Day. Also joining this list in 2019 is the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on May 31st. You’ll notice on our calendar below that we’ve accounted for this with very red days the day before and the day of. We’re fully expecting these days to be insane as guests come from all over the world to experience this new land. This should sound scary and is meant to deter you from choosing the later part of May for your trip if you’re interested in slower crowds.
We’ll continue our discussion about this and other events below but first take a look at our May Disneyland Crowd Calendar. As we mentioned before it’s a combination of school breaks, holidays, special events and historical crowd data. We break down days very simply by using a Green, Yellow and Red guide. Green is the slower days and ones we would visit on. Yellow is going to be a moderate day at the parks and Red is a very busy day, one that we would avoid if we can. Keep in mind that this is resort wide. We also don’t proclaim to be 100% accurate but this is a great way to judge an average crowd at the resort.
With Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge only affecting the very last part of May, there are a few other things that you will want to be aware of. The first is Grad Nite at Disneyland. These special events for graduating high school seniors happen every year and for the average guest means larger crowds. The 2019 events take place on the following days in May and June:
2019 Disneyland Resort Grad Nite Dates:
- May 10, 11, 17, 18, 21, 22, 28, 29, and 31
- June 4, 5, 7, 8, 11, 12, and 14
On these days graduating high school seniors are given 3 options to attend the parks. First is a ticket for the private party only. This party is at California Adventure Park from 9pm to 2am. What this means for guests not attending is that they will have to go over to Disneyland Park at 9pm. The second ticket option is for them to spend all day in California Adventure Park and attend the private party that night. Lastly, their 3rd option is for them to spend all day at Disneyland Park and California Adventure Park and then attend the party that night.
Ticket prices for this event are deeply discounted so we always plan on the parks being pretty busy these days, especially California Adventure Park. June tends to be the busier days for Grad Nite than in May.
Memorial Day in 2019 falls on the 27th so you can expect May 25th, 26th and 27th to be moderately busy. The Southern California Select Annual Pass will be blocked out those days so many of the locals won’t be there but there will be plenty of out of towners who come in for this holiday weekend.
If you’re planning to head to Disneyland later than May you can see our June or July Crowd Calendars.
