How To Get Star Wars Land Tickets

2019 is going to be a big year for the Disney theme parks! On the west coast at the Disneyland Resort, the largest theme park expansion to take place will be opening and guests can’t wait! Opening Dates for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge

The Disneyland Resort will be opening Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge first on May 31st, 2019. While this opening is “ahead” of schedule, it’s not a complete opening as only a part of Galaxy’s Edge will open that day. Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run along with some shops and the cantina will be open. The rest of Galaxy’s Edge will open at a later date.

Guests who want to be there on opening day will need to make a reservation to enter the land. These reservations can be done online and will be very limited. At the same time neither Fastpass nor MaxPass will be available for Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run. There may be a standby line available for guests who do not have a reservation but there’s no guarantee. Details on reservations will be released at a later date here. Thus far only property hotel guests are going to be given reservations during their stay.

For Walt Disney World, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open August 29th, 2019 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The difference here is that the entire land will open on this day. There will be no phase opening like at the Disneyland Resort. Guests should be able to make FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance for the new attractions if they’re staying on property. For everyone else they should be able to make reservations 30 days in advance. We anticipate standby lines for the new attractions to be greater than 4 hours. Remember that having Star Wars Land tickets does not guarantee you entrance into the land. Parks are limited to the number of guests they can have.

Crowd Levels

If you think you’ve been to Disneyland on a busy day, guess again. We would estimate that Disneyland has somewhere around 75,000 guests on a moderate day and between 90-100,000 guests on really busy days. We would also guess that for the opening for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge this number will exceed 120,000 guests. What this means for you is a few things:

  1. Be prepared to arrive early. Like really, really early. There will probably be guests lining up the night before at Downtown Disney or off Harbour Blvd. These are the hard-core Disney guests who want the first look. After these guests there will probably be the next set of guests lining up 4-5 hours before. Then the causal guests who have no idea what’s going on will arrive around 1-2 hours before park opening. When you choose to arrive is up to you but we aware that there may be lots a guests ahead of you.
  2. Security is going to be rough at all points of access to the property with long lines. While nobody likes to wait to have their bag checked, think of it this way: They’re making sure you have a safe experience at the parks. And yes, they check every bag.
  3. Once you’re past security you’ll have to walk and get in line to enter the park (specifically Disneyland). Thee lines are also going to be long and it may take an hour or more just to move through it. Now this is where the big IF comes. We’re referring to the idea of crowd capacity being reached for the park. This has only happened maybe a handful of times in the history of the resort but May 31st, 2019 could very well be one of those days. If the park does rach capacity, gates will be closed and guests will no longer be permitted to enter for an unknown amount of time.
  4. Let’s say you get into Disneyland Park finally and start your mad rush over to Galaxy’s Edge. Now what? Well some guests will have a reservation that allows them entry. Everyone else will have to stand in a queue waiting for their turn…which may never come. Again, it comes down to crowds and how many people are there. Even a land can be closed to letting guests in because of capacity issues.

What we’re getting at is that the crowds are going to determine how this day and week and month goes. What we would suggest if you’re set on getting into the new land is to arrive as early as you can and be prepared to be patient as you go from line to line. Star Wars Land tickets will be easy to buy, it’s everything else that’s going to be very difficult. Stay calm and bring something to do while you wait.
