Have you been on a cruise?

If you answered yes to this question then skip on down to the next section. If you answered no, you’re in for a real treat. Now most of the time when people are searching for cruises, they aren’t ready to book yet or they are feeling out prices. This is completely appropriate as a cruise can be a big investment of money and time. Most guests book cruises about 9-12 months in advance and most of them are cruise-experienced. They do this because many times they already know where they want to go, what ship and what type of room and where on the boat.

You might be asking yourself, does all that stuff matter? To be frank, some does and some doesn’t. Knowing where you want to go on a cheap cruise is probably the biggest thing you need to decide. Western Caribbean? Alaska? Mexican Riviera? Bahamas? Once you know where you want to go the rest is easy. Most cruise lines offer searches based on location. From there it’s a matter of deciding a date. What time of the year works best for you. Some cruises run year-round like the Caribbean and some run only in the summer months like Alaska. What we love about our partner and cruise discounter Get Away Today is that they can show you all of this at one time so you know who is going to sail when and where.

Once you’ve figured out where and when you want to go you’ll want to figure out what type of room you need for your party and where on the ship you want the room(s). If you need more than one room you’re going to want to make sure that they can be close to each other. Staterooms as they are called are all based on category. Some are inside, some have windows and some have balconies. All this will impact where your rooms ends up.

Once you’ve chosen your room then you’ll move on to dining and excursions. What time do you want to eat and what do you want to do when the boat ports? We’ve explained all this in detail below. Just take things one at a time.

Most importantly though is to make sure you book a cruise. Many people get as far as looking at pricing and that’s it. Cruises are an amazing experience and something everyone should experience. So do more than most and book it! You’ll have photos and memories to share for a lifetime with others.

Booking Cruises for Cheap

It’s 2020 so you should know by now that you can book cruises for less and that there really is no difference between booking a discounted cruise and a regular one except the saved money. Discounts come in many forms. Some are just straight money off the top. Some are gift cards. Some are room credits and some are free excursions or even drinks while onboard. We’ve even seen kids sail for free offers. These things are what you should be looking for when booking a cruise. If you’re not getting at least one of these things you’re paying too much.

The first place you should look for a cheap cruise is with Get Away Today. They have been selling cruises for over 20 years and everyone of their offered cruises include some kind of discount. Their search engine is very simple to use and can help you find the right cruise and ave a lot of money.

They offer cruises from all the major cruise brands including:

  • Disney Cruise Line
  • Carnival Cruise Line
  • Holland America Cruise Line
  • Royal Caribbean Cruise Line
  • Celebrity Cruise Line
  • Norwegian Cruise Line
  • Princess Cruise Line
  • Viking River Cruises

We promise you’ll find the right cruise for you at the right price between all these trusted cruise lines.

Your initial search will look and feel very simple. Choose the month you want to go. Your destination and how long. You can add or receive additional discounts by adding your zip code and age below. We explain these more in detail below. Now click search!

Your search results will be neatly displayed by most relevant. You’ll be shown which cruise line is offering it, how long, where they go and available discounts on the cruise. This should be your favorite part. In the example below you’ll see that your tips are included in the price which is big savings per adult. You’ll also see savings of us to 50% off fares for a limited time. This is exactly what you’re looking for in a discounted cruise.

Of course you’ll want to see what ship you’re on, cruise rating and where it departs from. Now choose the stateroom type you want based on price and then choose to See Details.

You’ll notice on the next page that different sailing dates offer different discounts. Some are very much on sale and some are a little less. Choose the one that fits you best. The more flexible you can be the more you can save!

Now choose your room type from Interior, Oceanview, Balcony or a Suite. These options stand for most cruise lines. Interior are the cheaper rooms because they offer no view or windows. Oceanview is a window overlooking the ocean. Balcony has an actual door from your room to the outside where you can enjoy a private patio. Suites include a balcony, windows and much more room.

Once you choose your stateroom you’ll be asked to confirm the category of the room type. Some rooms have different offers attached to them as well. Some rooms may have some obstructed views while others are free and clear.

Now it’s time to finalize everything and choose your actual room, dining and any excursions.

Getting even more specific with your room is choosing its actual location on the ship including the room number. You have a map to look at to help you choose where you want to stay. Discounted cruises work the same so you’ll have all the same options.

Now choose your dining. Different cruise lines offer differing options. Some are as easy as choosing 1st dining or 2nd dining and will show you the times they start. Some get more intense and let you choose your table size or if you wish to show up whenever without committing to any specific time.

And that’s it! The whole process only takes 5-10 minutes and you’ll have your cheap cruise booked!

Which Cruise Line Should I Sail?

Even though you’re heading to Alaska for a cruise in the summer time doesn’t mean there’s just one cruise line sailing up there. In fact, there are at least 10 different cruise lines heading to Alaska in the summer season. So which one is best? Read about each one, discounts they offer and what they’re known for to help you make that decision.

Disney Cruise Line

discount disney cruises

We list this one first because they are our favorite cruise line to sail on, whether we have kids with us or not. At first glance you may think that Disney is pricier than other cruise lines. What you’re not seeing and won’t see until you cruise is that Disney is above the rest in what they have to offer their guests. They’ve set the standard for a new cruise category.

With rotational dining, kids and tween clubs, firework shows, deck parties, formal dining, 5K runs and a private island Disney Cruise Line is hard to beat; especially discount Disney cruises.

Disney also has lots of options when it comes to places to visit including:

  • Alaska
  • Mexican Riviera
  • Europe
  • Bahamas
  • Caribbean
  • California
  • New York
  • New England/Canada
  • And more!

While most guests just assume that these cruises are only for families and are packed with kids, you would be wrong. In fact, while it seems that way, amenities for Adults only including Adult only dining, swimming, massages and lounges, you’ll find some serious peace and quiet.

Rooms include Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and Suites.

Carnival Cruise Line

The party cruise line as it’s known, offers cheap cruises that definitely attract younger crowds. Still, families and couples can have an enjoyable time on these cruises that offer visits to the following destinations:

  • Bahamas
  • Baja Mexico
  • Caribbean
  • Europe
  • Bermuda
  • Hawaii
  • Alaska
  • And more!

If you’re looking for a good cruise experience without spending a lot of money, discount Carnival Cruises are the way to go. Most ships are usually full which is something to keep in mind. Also drink packages are required even for soda. Dining is usually pretty good and you do have the option to go formal.

Rooms include Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and Suites.

Holland America Cruise Line

discount holland america cruises

This is one of the most interesting cruise lines as far as history goes. Holland America originally started out as a shipping business in the 1800’s from the Netherlands to the America’s. Eventually they turned into a passenger line running the same route. Since 1989 they have been a full cruise line offering sailings from all over the world. Cheap Holland America Cruises can include destinations such as:

  • Africa
  • South America
  • Alaska
  • Mexico
  • Bahamas
  • Caribbean
  • Europe
  • Asia
  • And more!

Holland America is technically owned by Carnival Cruises (the one we just mentioned above) except it is more of it’s luxury line. We love Holland America Cruises and have found every ship we’ve sailed on very comfortable and up to date. The cruises are for everyone including couples, friends and families. There are things to do for every age. Drink packages can be purchased for each cabin member that include soda to mocktails and wine. Holland America does own a private island in the Bahamas.

Discounted Holland America Cruises are always available with specials such as 50% off fares, free tips and special dining, welcome gifts and more. Be sure to take advantage of these special offers by booking your cruise with Get Away Today.

Rooms include Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and Suites.

Norwegian Cruise Line

norwegian cruise deals

This is the third largest cruise line in the world and has some of the biggest ships in their fleet behind Carnival and Royal Caribbean. Norwegian has begun an expansion that will include 7 new ships over the next 5-6 years. They are all expected to be in their upper class level of ships. Norwegian is a very nice cruise line offering many destinations including:

  • Alaska
  • Caribbean
  • Bermuda
  • Bahamas
  • Europe
  • Mexico
  • Asia
  • Africa
  • Australia and New Zealand
  • And more!

Some of the best deals on cruises come from Norwegian. We’ve seen Norwegian Cruise Line deals that included unlimited open bar, shore excursions, wifi, specialty dining, reduced airfare, ship board credit and family and friends sail free. That’s a ton of savings for a cruise line that we consider in our top 3!

Because Norwegian is pretty popular we would suggest booking as early as possible. If getting the right room is important to you then be sure to do this! Of course there are times when booking last minute can have its perks too including better rooms or free upgrades for half the price. You must be flexible when doing this.

Norwegian does own two private islands in the caribbean, both offers some great things to do, mostly in the water and around its beaches. Typically cruises that go to the caribbean stop at one or both of them.

Rooms include Inside, Ocean View, Balcony and Suites.

Princess Cruises

cheap princess cruises

This is one of the last Carnival-owned lines we’ll mention but it is technically owned by Carnival Cruise Line. Of course the Carnival Cruises vs. Princess aren’t even in the same class. Princess offers so much more in luxury cruising then Carnival ever would. We haven’t sailed on Princess very much, we actually prefer Holland America over Princess but they are both comparable as far as class and service goes. Princess sails to most places including:

  • Caribbean
  • Bahamas
  • Europe
  • Asia
  • Alaska
  • South America
  • Hawaii
  • Australia
  • And More!

Conclusion

There are so many ways to purchase discount cruises these days. Paying full price without any benefits would be a disaster! We highly recommend booking your cheap cruise with Get Away Today who offers the most in discounts and special offers than anyone else. You can find yourself with free tips, kids sail free, 50% cruise fares, exclusive dining and more.
