Soarin’ Around the World is a captivating flight motion simulator attraction located in the Grizzly Peak Airfield section of Disney California Adventure Park, part of the Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. It’s known for offering guests an immersive, multi-sensory experience that takes them on a breathtaking journey over various iconic landmarks across the globe.
Height Requirement: Guests must be at least 40 inches (102 cm) tall to enjoy the attraction. It’s family-friendly but does take riders to significant virtual heights, so those with a fear of heights may need to consider this. Read more on height requirements for Disneyland Attractions.
Average Wait Times: Depending on the time of year and day, wait times typically range from 30 to 90 minutes. Peak season and weekends may see the longer end of this spectrum.
Single Rider: Currently Soarin’ Around the World does not provide a Single Rider line allowing individuals to experience the ride with a potentially shorter wait if they are willing to be seated separately from their party. Guests must use the standby line or the Lightning Lane to experience the attraction.
Parent Swap (Rider Switch): Families with smaller children or those not meeting the height requirement can take advantage of the Rider Switch program. This ensures both parents can experience the attraction without waiting in line twice.
DAS (Disability Access Service): Guests with disabilities that prevent them from waiting in conventional queues may qualify for DAS, allowing for a more accommodating experience. Visit Guest Relations for assistance.
Best Times to Ride: Early mornings after the park opens, late evenings, or during scheduled meal times tend to be the most opportune times to experience the ride. Weekdays during off-peak seasons also offer shorter wait times.
History of the Attraction
Soarin’ Around the World is an evolution of the original attraction, Soarin’ Over California, which opened with Disney California Adventure Park on February 8, 2001.
The original attraction was conceived by Imagineer Mark Sumner and represented a technological marvel at the time, combining a mechanical lift system with a large projection dome to create the sensation of flight.
In 2016, the attraction was reimagined as Soarin’ Around the World, expanding the experience to include landmarks from across the globe. This included new digital projections, scents, and a musical score by renowned composer Bruce Broughton.
The experience takes guests on a “flight” over various iconic locations like the Great Wall of China, Sydney Harbour, the African Serengeti, and more. Accompanied by stunning visuals and uplifting orchestral music, the ride also engages other senses with scents that correspond to the various locations.
Soarin’ Around the World is a standout attraction at Disneyland Resort, providing an experience that’s both thrilling and awe-inspiring. Its blend of technology, artistry, and storytelling makes it a must-ride for visitors of all ages.
Whether you’re a first-time guest or a Disney veteran, this attraction is likely to leave you with a sense of wonder. Consider using Genie+, Lightning Lane, or Rider Switch options to maximize your time, and don’t forget to take in the remarkable journey that spans both the history and the globe of this fantastic attraction.
