Free DVC Rental Cost & Availability Calculator

If you’re thinking of renting a DVC members points but aren’t sure what resorts and room type are available for your dates or simply want to see how much it will cost you, our free DVC rental cost and availability calculator is the tool you’re looking. With so many options to rent DVC these days it can be a pain to wait for a response on what’s available and what isn’t. Because DVC availability is always changing you want to make sure that you’re moving as fast as possible to book what you need.

DVC Availability and Cost Calculator

Our DVC calculator below helps you search and find what’s currently available through DVC using the following search parameters:

  • Check-in date
  • Check-out date
  • Number of guests

Once entered you can search all DVC Resorts including Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Aulani Resort, Vero Beach and Hilton Head Resort. Your search results will offer you the following:

  • Resort
  • Room type
  • Room view
  • Number of points required to book
  • Price*

*Our calculator assumes a price of $23 per point. If you know you will be paying less than this just do the quick math by taking the number of points * your cost per point. This will give you your total cost for the booking. An example of this would be: a studio at Animal Kingdom Lodge shows a total point cost of 70 for your dates. The DVC member/company is charging you $21 per point. So take 70 x 21 = $1,470.

The results on our calculator are color-coded to make them easy to read:

  • Red = No availability
  • Yellow = Partial availability
  • Green = Full availability

So if you find something that is highlighted Green then it should be available for booking.

If it is Yellow that means some of the days between your check-in and check-out are available but not all.

Anything in Red is not available.

Booking With Results

You may already be working with someone who is willing to rent you their DVC points. If this is the case, instead of going back and forth asking them to check on resort availability, you can use our DVC calculator until you find what you’re wanting to book. Then you can contact the booking party and let them know.

If you’re looking to rent but haven’t found anyone to help you book, this is still a great place to start. Before you make a post or reach out to a member, check here to see if what you want is available or not. That way when you make your request there is a good chance that if someone checks for you, it will be available.

As far as who to reach out to to book a DVC rental for you there are several options out there:

We don’t recommend any one company or group over another. However, we will note that rental stores tend to charge a high price per point, especially for premium resorts like BoardWalk, Beach Club, Aulani, Grand Floridian, Polynesian etc.

Members who are renting points through a DVC Facebook Group tend to be more open to negotiating the price per point or are already offering them under $23 per point.

DVC Cost Per Point

How much you should be paying has an ever-changing answer in our opinion. Most guests are looking to book a DVC villa because it saves them money and offers them more space and comfort during their stay. Typically when you compare booking directly with Disney for a villa vs. using a DVC Members points you can expect an average savings of around 20-30%. Sometimes this is higher and sometimes not.

So when it comes down to figuring out what you should be paying per point we recommend going with a range which is made up of three things:

  1. When you’re traveling
  2. Market cost
  3. How you’re renting

Let’s break each one of these down and then look at the ranges that we recommend you should be paying in.

When You’re Traveling

DVC Members can book out as far as 11 months if the resort they are booking is their Home Resort. Anytime you’re booking between 8-11 months out you’re going to pay top dollar. This is because the member is likely able to fulfill your request as only owners of that Home Resort can book there.

Once you start looking for reservations 7 months or less out, it’s a free-for-all. All DVC Members can now book this resort whether it’s their Home Resort or not. It becomes slim pickens at this point and because of that, anyone who has DVC points becomes an eligible booker for you. This drives down the cost per point whereas before, only Home Resort members (a narrower pool) could book.

Let’s break down both of these scenarios:

Booking PeriodCost Per PointRoom AvailabilityAvailable Members
11-8 MonthsHigherHigherLower
7 Months or LessLowerLowerHigher

Market Cost

This has fluctuated over the years mainly do to the cost of owning a DVC membership which do have rising costs. In this case a member is going to rent their points to at least cover what their annual costs are for the membership. This will vary based on several factors including which resort they own at, when they bought their contract, how many points they own and if they have a loan or not.

Outside of members themselves Renting Stores have the next biggest influence on cost per point. As of 2023 rental stores are charging $23 per point for premium resorts booked 8 months or more in advance and $21 for 7 months or less. For non-premium resorts they charge a flat $21 per point no matter how far out it is. Occasionally they will get members with last-minute points that need to be used and will offer them lower than $21 per point.

Typically members follow rental stores in their pricing but they do have flexibility which we’ll discuss next.

How You Book

Booking your rental through a rental store can be easier than through a member depending on how far in advance you’re booking. A rental store will take your request and do all the leg work on it like finding availability and a member to make the reservation for you. This is great if you’re looking to book last-minute or less than 7 months out.

Booking directly with a member is great when you’re looking for something 8 months or more in advance because they are likely to find it and you’ll probably pay less per point than through a rental store. However, booking last-minute can be difficult because it usually requires yourself and the member to go back and forth on dates, resorts, room types and overall availability.

Here’s a simple breakdown of the advantages and disadvantages of both:

Rental Store

Advantages are:

  • They find the member
  • They check availability
  • They direct and communicate for you

Disadvantages are:

  • They charge more per point
  • Their pool of booking members is limited
  • Require an up-front deposit before booking request is sent out

DVC Members

Advantages are:

  • They can book quickly
  • Advanced booking requests are likely filled
  • They tend to charge less per point
  • No up-front deposit just to look

Disadvantages are:

  • You have to find the member
  • You have to communicate everything
  • A lot of back and forth. Sometimes requires settling

Cost Ranges

With all of that broken down hopefully you have a good understanding of what goes into the cost (or really value) of a point, where flexibility can come into play and where you should expect to spend top dollar per point. Here are our suggested ranges when it comes to paying or offering a per point price:

Booking Method11-8 Months Premium Resort7 or Less Months Premium Resort11-8 Months Non-Premium Resort7 or Less Months Non-Premium Resort
