Performers for The Lion King Production Smiling for Photo

‘Tale of the Lion King’ Debuts at DCA

An all-new, original outdoor musical theater production, “Tale of the Lion King,” debuts today at Disney California Adventure® Park. This new stage show celebrates the characters and music of Disney’s “The Lion King” in an imaginative and unique way. The lead narrator, Mwongozo (Swahili for “guide”) leads a troupe of 18 performers called the Storytellers of the Pride Lands in this adaptation. The performance is presented in a contemporary story-theater style that retells the tale through language, song and dance.

“The approach that we’ve taken with ‘Tale of the Lion King’ is that this is a story that was passed on from generation to generation, and now it’s come here to Disney California Adventure park,” said Susana Tubert, Creative Director, Disney Parks Live Entertainment. “The Storytellers of the Pride Lands have come to share this ancestral story of how a cub became a king.”

Enjoy new musical arrangements of favorite songs, including “Circle of Life,” “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Hakuna Matata,” among others. The live drumming and singing, along with the set and costumes all celebrate the cultural roots of this beloved Disney story. Check out our first peek below!

For a limited-time this summer, “Tale of the Lion King” will be performed several times daily at the Palisades Stage in Disney California Adventure Park. And for a limited-time you can get your 5th day free when you purchase any 4 day Disneyland ticket. We highly recommend looking at all the savings you can get on your 2019 Disneyland Resort tickets. If you’re not sure how many days to visit, we can help with that too!

We’re excited to have the Lion King make its debut at California Adventure Park and to celebrate this historic animation! Guests from all over will enjoy the music, singing and dancing that come with this new celebration. Guests will not be required to have tickets for shows throughout the day. Simply head over to the Palisades Stage and enjoy!

Be sure to pick up a guide on your way into the park to see all the showtimes for that day. You can also check your Disneyland app for shows times. Typically for shows such as World of Color and Frozen, you would need to get a reserved ticket which can be done through MaxPass now but as we mentioned this particular show doesn’t require a reservation.

Our personal take on this show is that it’s a must watch. We were there the first day it debut and absolutely loved it. The talent is amazing, the music is amazing (as you know) and the overall stage performance is just incredible. We’re big fans of Festival of the Lion King at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park so we went to this with high expectations and it did not disappoint!

While the production is “small” and does not have it’s own theater, the cast and crew and certainly making due. We know a lot of people love Frozen at the Hyperion theater but we’re strong believers in Lion King replacing Frozen for a time and getting a proper setting. We couldn’t help but think this as we watched this new production. The jokes, the music and the nostalgia all comes to life.
