The Walt Disney World Halloween celebration is not confined to the month of October. Never has been. In 2026, the celebration is set to start even earlier than it ever has in its 30+ years of existence, with the first night scheduled for August 7th!
After poring over every single resource on Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, I can confidently say that the majority of places only scratch the surface when it comes to this unique celebration. They usually only provide information on dates, some tricks and tips, and food options. However, there is far more to learn about before you decide to shell out anywhere between $119-$229 per person, especially when it comes to new experiences like Stitch’s dance party and little-known tricks that most guides overlook!
The “Not So Scary” Party of the Year
The Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) is an event that requires additional tickets and takes place on certain dates within Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida. The party begins at 7 pm and lasts until midnight, with special entry beginning at 4 pm. MNSSHP turns the park into a different world with its scary yet family-friendly atmosphere!
Imagine the streets filled with trick-or-treat stations, the Headless Horseman riding his horse, performances by the Sanderson Sisters in Cinderella Castle, haunted fireworks accompanied by narration from the Haunted Mansion Ghost Host, and many more unique experiences that you can only enjoy here! Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party was established partially due to the competition of Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida. While the latter concentrates more on horror aspects, MNSSHP is all about Halloween fun and joy!
2026 Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party Dates
The announcement is here! The 2026 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starts August 7 to October 31, 2026, the earliest the party has ever started, besting its previous record of starting on August 15.
The full list of 2026 party dates is as follows:
Disney even threw us a bone by sharing their tips on planning your party dates:
- For August, parties happen on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
- For September, these days remain the same, but Thursday gets added as a party day once, that is September 24.
- As for October, there’s no rest for the wicked; the party occurs Thursdays, most Fridays and Tuesdays, most Sundays, and Halloween night on Saturday, October 31.
My thoughts on this, August party dates should be seriously considered! The park becomes transformed sooner than expected, crowds thin out, tickets become cheaper, and most importantly, you get the whole Halloween party experience!

Everything NEW for 2026
In late April 2026, Disney teased a new party called “Halfway to Halloween,” and all the Halloween-loving fans were super excited about this teaser! There were plenty of hidden hints pointing to the August 7 opening date before Disney officially announced the event. Check out the list of what’s new or confirmed for the upcoming year!
A New Attraction
Stitch Dance Party at Rockettower Plaza Stage
The newest attraction of 2026 (and one of the best ones, in my opinion) is a brand-new dance party hosted by Stitch! It’ll take place at the Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland alongside Lilo and Angel. What makes this dance party unique? Once Stitch obtains Lilo’s Costume Trunk, each accessory he puts on changes themes, creating an endless stream of new and different themes at the dance party!
It replaces ZOM-BEATZ BASH, which was a dance party inspired by the Zombies 4 movie, replacing the DescenDANCE Party in Tomorrowland. Disneyland creates something new at this stage every one-two years, and it always seems like a hit idea!
The New Halloween Treats to Look Forward To
At the time of this writing (late April 2026), Disney announced the availability of special Halloween snacks and beverages as well as specialty merchandise, though the full food menu is only released close to the opening day. According to the teaser on Disney Parks Blog and previous experiences, there is information we can trust.
Most likely to return in 2026 based on their popularity:
- Mickey-shaped Cheesecake (a pumpkin flavor with a graham cracker crust)
- Mickey-shaped Cinnamon Roll with Halloween decorations
- Not-a-Poisoned Apple Slushy – this drink will surely return as always being popular among the guests
- Madame Leota Séance Candle – a novelty sipper
- Jack Skellington popcorn bucket
There’s no information on newly-added 2026 MNSSHP food yet; however, judging from the 2025 experience, there could be more than 40 snacks and meals, with 20+ participating restaurants serving the food. Disney usually reveals the full menu 2-4 weeks prior to the event opening night!
One important thing to consider, and it deserves mentioning because of its uniqueness – not all Halloween-themed food is only served during the MNSSHP event. Some Halloween food and drinks are also available during regular park operating hours. For example, at Magic Kingdom, visitors will be able to enjoy Pumpkin Sundae at Plaza Ice Cream Parlor even if they do not have a MNSSHP ticket!
The Core Entertainment That Makes This Night Magic
If I had to give you the three things to never miss at MNSSHP, here they are:
1. Mickey’s Boo-to-You Halloween Parade
Twice nightly (early showing + later showing), this is one of Disney’s most atmospheric parades — full stop. It kicks off with the Headless Horseman dramatically galloping down Main Street, U.S.A. about 5–10 minutes before the parade officially begins. Hitchhiking Ghosts, Disney Villains, pirates, Haunted Mansion characters, and all your favorites dressed in Halloween finery follow.
Over the course of the season, the parade route involves 175 performers, float drivers, costumers, cosmetologists, and maintenance cast members. Pro tip: Watch the first parade from Liberty Square or Frontierland — less crowded, and you get a great view without staking out a spot an hour early. Save Main Street for the second parade if you want Cinderella Castle in the background.
Here are detailed viewing tips for every core entertainment experience at MNSSHP:
Viewing Tips
The parade runs twice nightly, and your strategy should be different for each showing.
First Parade (usually around 8:15–8:30 PM):
-
Position yourself in Liberty Square or Frontierland — this is the middle of the route and significantly less crowded than Main Street
-
Arrive 20–25 minutes early to snag a front-row curb spot!
-
Liberty Square gives you a moody, atmospheric backdrop that feels extra Halloween-appropriate!
-
The Diamond Horseshoe area in Frontierland is a sweet spot, floats slow down slightly coming around the bend, giving you more time with each section!
Second Parade (usually around 10:30–11 PM):
-
If you want Cinderella Castle in your background photos, Main Street is your spot for the second showing!
-
Crowds thin noticeably for the late parade, you can often grab a front spot just 10 minutes before it starts!
-
The Hub (Central Plaza) between Main Street and the castle is a fantastic second-parade viewing spot, wide open sightlines and you catch floats head-on!
Here’s an extra tip, the Headless Horseman gallops down Main Street 5–10 minutes before the official parade start. If you’re not in position early, you’ll miss him entirely. He only makes one pass — there’s no second chance.
2. Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular
The Sanderson Sisters take over Cinderella Castle for a stage show that’s part comedy, part spell-casting showdown. Winifred, Sarah, and Mary are joined by guest appearances from Disney Villains including Hades, Jafar, Dr. Facilier, Cruella de Vil, and the Evil Queen. It’s theatrical, it’s hilarious, and it’s wildly popular. The castle projections make every seat a good one!
Viewing Tips
This castle stage show is massively popular and standing room fills up fast.
-
Aim to be in the Hub (Central Plaza) at least 30–45 minutes before showtime for the first performance!
-
The sweet spot for viewing is center-left of the Hub, roughly halfway back, you get a clear sightline of the stage AND the castle projections above!
-
Sitting on the ground is totally normal and encouraged; bring a small blanket if you have one!
-
Don’t stand too close to the castle, the stage show uses projection mapping on the entire castle facade, and you need distance to appreciate the full effect!
-
The second showing is almost always less crowded than the first. If you sacrifice the first show for character lines or candy, you’ll have an easier time getting a good spot for the late performance!
-
The show typically lasts around 20 minutes, factor that into your night’s itinerary!
The sides of the Hub (near the paths leading to Adventureland and Tomorrowland) are actually underrated viewing spots. You’re slightly off-center, but the castle projection wraps around and still looks stunning from those angles, and you’ll have way more breathing room!
3. Disney’s Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Fireworks
Narrated by Jack Skellington (and featuring the voice of the Haunted Mansion’s Ghost Host), this fireworks show tells a Halloween story in the sky above Cinderella Castle. It layers projections onto the castle while fireworks burst overhead, gorgeous to look at and emotionally resonant for any Disney fan!
Viewing Tips
The fireworks show combines aerial fireworks + full Cinderella Castle projection mapping, so your position matters more than a typical fireworks show.
-
Best spot: Dead center in the Hub, roughly 200–300 feet from the castle. This gives you the widest view of both the projections and the fireworks bursting overhead!
-
Second best: The bridge between the Hub and Tomorrowland — elevated slightly, wide open sky, less crowded!
-
Avoid standing directly under trees near the Hub — they’ll block portions of the fireworks!
-
The show typically runs once per party night, so there’s no second chance if you miss it!
-
Get in position at least 15–20 minutes early — the Hub fills up quickly once Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular wraps up, since both events use the same general viewing area!
Here’s a nice timing trick, the fireworks show and the second parade are usually scheduled close together. Check the party’s entertainment schedule (available in the My Disney Experience app and on the paper party map handed out at entry) and plan which one is your priority, trying to rush between them can mean you catch neither properly!
Alternative Viewing: The rooftop terrace of Tomorrowland Terrace Restaurant is sometimes opened as a fireworks viewing area during parties. It’s not always available, but worth asking a cast member about when you arrive, it’s one of the best kept secrets in the park!
Returning Entertainment in 2026
The Cadaver Dans — a barbershop quartet of singing “ghosts” performing on the Liberty Belle riverboat dock — one of those low-key gems people walk right past!
Viewing Tips
This one is easy — and that’s exactly why most people skip it.
-
-
The Cadaver Dans perform on the Liberty Belle Riverboat dock in Liberty Square
-
Performances are short (about 10–15 minutes) and repeat throughout the night
-
Check the entertainment schedule in the My Disney Experience app for exact set times
-
Arrive 5 minutes early and stand near the dock railing — it’s a small performance area and an intimate show
-
This is a perfect low-energy reset moment mid-night when you need a breather between bigger events
-
Bonus: the Liberty Square area is usually quieter during parade times, making this a great spot to catch your breath while everyone else is crowding Main Street
-
-
Disney Junior Jam — a dance party for the littles at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café!
Viewing Tips
This one is specifically designed for the little ones, and it’s held at Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café in Tomorrowland.
-
It’s an indoor venue — a huge perk on warm August and September party nights when outdoor standing gets sweaty
-
Arrive 10–15 minutes early to get a good floor spot near the front for your kids
-
The indoor setting also means it’s a great rainy night backup — Florida weather in hurricane season can surprise you
-
Characters sometimes make appearances here, so keep an eye on the entertainment schedule in the app for any character interaction moments tied to the Jam
-
-
Exclusive character meet-and-greets across all six lands!
NEW Stitch Dance Party – What to Expect
I wanted to highlight this one in particular as it’s really cool! Throughout the years, Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland has played host to various types of events such as dance parties and even stage shows. However, with the introduction of the Stitch Dance Party, there’s one thing that makes it unique; the fact that it’s always unpredictable. This is done by allowing Stitch to swap costumes which will then change the theme of the party each time.
Moreover, I love how the party includes both Lilo and Angel as they aren’t seen together often and the only time that one would usually get to see such rare characters is at party nights. As someone who is really into Lilo & Stitch after the upcoming live-action film in 2025, I’m sure there will be many people who would want to check this out!
The Best Trick-or-Treating Anywhere
One thing that I don’t think is appreciated enough, the Halloween trick or treating at MNSSHP is actually just as much fun for adults too! Each visitor will receive a free treat bag when entering the park, which can be refilled as many times as you’d like through more than 14 treat stops!
All candy is sponsored by Mars Wrigley, so expect M&Ms, Snickers, Skittles, Twix, 3 Musketeers, and Starburst at the stations! And yes, when you pick up your treat bag, you typically also receive a full-size bag of M&Ms right at the start!
2025 Treat Trail Locations (expect similar in 2026):
-
Main Street, U.S.A. — Market Street Welcome (available until 8 PM only)
-
Adventureland — Tortuga Tavern, Enchanted Tiki Room, Sunshine Tree Terrace
-
Frontierland — Country Bear Musical Jamboree, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
-
Liberty Square — The Diamond Horseshoe
-
Tomorrowland — Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress, Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Near TRON Lightcycle/Run
-
Fantasyland — Fantasyland Train Station (Storybook Circus), Dumbo the Flying Elephant, Gaston’s Tavern, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Princess Fairytale Hall
Allergy-friendly option: Pick up a teal bag at the start of the event and collect tokens at each station. Turn them in later for allergy-friendly treats. Disney really does think of everything!
Usually, most advice is to reach the candy stands early on. However, my advice would be just the opposite. Enjoy your top priority entertainment during the first part of the day, and then go for the candy stands during the latter part of the evening. The queues at the candy stands become thinner past 10 PM when all others are busy watching the second parade!
Most guides recommend visiting the candy stations early on. I, however, would recommend otherwise. It would be best for you to get through your must-do entertainment activities in the first half of the evening, then visit the candy stations in the latter half of the evening. I say this because by 10 PM, the lines are usually shorter at the candy stations! Most people jump straight to the candy because kids tend to get tired earlier and leave the park before the event ends, so watching the events and taking photos with the characters first leaves the candy lines open later on! It really just depends on what you want to prioritize.
Rare Characters You Can Only Find at MNSSHP
This is a big deal! You can’t find these characters on any regular park day. Here’s a look at who typically appears exclusively during MNSSHP:
-
Jack Skellington & Sally — Town Square Theater (line up before the party starts — seriously, aim for 4:00 PM)
-
Mickey & Minnie Mouse in exclusive Halloween costumes
-
Hitchhiking Ghosts (Ezra, Gus & Professor Phineas Plump) — from the Haunted Mansion
-
Dr. Facilier — from The Princess and the Frog
-
Captain Barbosa — from Pirates of the Caribbean
-
Elvis/Rock ‘n’ Roll Stitch — wildly popular, lines form fast
-
Pooh & Friends in Halloween costumes
-
Mirabel & Bruno — Encanto characters in party-exclusive attire
-
Disney Villains roaming Market Street — Mother Gothel, Cruella de Vil (timing varies by night)
-
Maleficent & Evil Queen — Princess Fairytale Hall Queue
Important to know: Lines for Jack & Sally and Elvis Stitch routinely hit 2+ hours. Get in these lines before the party officially starts at 7 PM if they’re your priority!
What You Can (and Can’t) Wear
One of the biggest perks of MNSSHP is that adults over 14 can wear costumes, something that’s not allowed on regular park days! But Disney has clear guidelines:
For guests 14 and older:
-
Costumes must be family-friendly; nothing violent, offensive, or obstructive
-
No costume props that resemble actual weapons
-
No sharp or pointed objects
-
Capes are fine, but only if they don’t go below the waist
-
No floor-length gowns (they can’t drag on the ground)
-
No full face masks — your face must be visible at all times (face paint is fine)
-
You can dress as a Disney character, but you cannot pose for photos as that character or sign autographs for other guests. Basically don’t pretend to work for Disney and take picture or sign autographs.
For kids 13 and under:
-
Costumes and some masks are allowed; masks must allow full peripheral vision with eyes clearly visible
Remember, it is extremely hot in Florida in August! The temperature will not dip much even at night during this time and could still be in the low to mid-80s. Light costumes work better here. I would strongly suggest trying to go for Disneybound – which is dressing up as a character using everyday wear and not a costume.
PhotoPass Magic Shots
Most guests know about character meet-and-greets for photos. Fewer people actively hunt down the Magic Shots scattered throughout the park and they’re some of the most creative Disney photos you can get all year!
Disney PhotoPass photographers at MNSSHP can digitally add spooky surprises to your photos. In 2025, Magic Shots included:
-
Headless Horseman (Liberty Square area)
-
Oogie Boogie Moon (multiple locations)
-
Skeleton Dance
-
Lock, Shock & Barrel
-
Autumn Tink, Halloween Balloons, Lonesome Ghosts (Main Street)
-
Zero (Haunted Mansion / Fantasyland Wall)
-
Haunted Mansion Collage (new addition)
-
Spooky Cauldron (new addition)
There are also interactive step-in photo frames (so fun) placed in Tomorrowland, Adventureland, and near The Plaza Restaurant. These are free to use and don’t require a PhotoPass photographer, just your phone! Take advantage of them if you’re not going to wait in line for characters!
If you have Disney PhotoPass or Memory Maker included in your package, all these shots are included! If not, you can purchase the photos individually through My Disney Experience after the party.
Is It Worth Going?
I’ll be honest, $119 to $229 per person is not pocket change, and if you’re going as a family it can really add up quickly! So is it worth going at all?
| What You Get | Approximate Value |
|---|---|
| Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular | ~$25 |
| Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade (x2) | ~$25 |
| Not-So-Spooky Spectacular Fireworks | ~$25 |
| Rare Character Meet-and-Greets | ~$25 |
| Trick-or-Treating + Candy Haul | ~$15–$20 worth of candy |
| Reduced crowds & atmosphere | Priceless for many |
So we’re already talking about $100 to $115 in identifiable entertainment value. Add on top of that tons of free candy, a perfect atmosphere as defined by Magic Kingdom itself, and the chance to wear your best costume, and many people think it is well worth the pricing (including me)!
The simple fact of the matter is, each of the past three years, each one of those party nights has completely sold out. It’s pretty clear to me that MNSSHP delivers its value; it might even be undervalued considering the demand!
On the other hand, if you’ve done this a number of times, it becomes more of a question of nostalgic value than anything else. If you haven’t gone, go!
Exciting Tips for MNSSHP
Here are some truly valuable tips I have discovered while going through multiple guides, Reddit posts, and the Disney community:
- Come at exactly 4 PM. People holding party tickets are allowed to enter Magic Kingdom three hours before the 7 PM opening time! Use these hours to visit the priority character lines (Jack & Sally, Stitch) before other visitors arrive!
- Do not schedule a full park day on the same day. If you are planning to spend 8 hours in the park before entering it at 4 PM, you will be too tired by 9 PM to enjoy the best part of the evening. Save your energy!
- Watch the first parade from Liberty Square or Frontierland. Main Street gets busy quickly when it comes to watching the parade. The middle part of the route will be less crowded but still offer good visibility.
- Make candy stops during the second parade. All other guests will be focused on the parade, which means that you will be able to quickly visit the treat locations without waiting in line!
- Order your food from your phone immediately. There are several quick-service restaurants where you can place your order using the mobile app. Order your food right away when the party begins to avoid the crowd.
- Pack an additional bag to carry candy. Trust me. Despite the fact that Disney will provide you with a treat bag, you will end up filling it to the brim if you visit all 14 candy spots multiple times. A small backpack will do.
- Check the My Disney Experience app for wait times for characters. Like for rides, you can find real-time wait times for characters in the app.
- Cadaver Dans barbershop quartet is an amazing hidden gem! While many guests hurry to the Liberty Belle riverboat dock during MNSSHP, there is a beautiful quartet of “ghosts” singing songs at this location!
- Inquire about Magic Shots at EVERY PhotoPass photographer! Some photographers might offer different Magic Shots than others. Make sure to ask about them at each spot.
- October 31 is magical, yet make sure to prepare. Halloween night is both the most expensive and busiest day of the season. If you are craving Halloween night’s atmosphere, do not hesitate. Just remember that the crowds will be as intense as on any regular day!
Extra Magic to Know Before Going
Can You Use a Regular Magic Kingdom Ticket + MNSSHP Ticket on the Same Day?
Yes, it is. There will be two separate admissions that are not overlapping each other. One will cover your admission in daytime while the second one gives you access to attend the party starting from 4 PM and going until midnight. Therefore, if you want to spend the whole day at Magic Kingdom and also attend the party, there are two separate tickets needed.
How About Theme Park Decorations — Will I Be Able to See Them without Party Ticket?
Absolutely yes! Magic Kingdom always decorates for the Halloween season in fall. 190 individually designed pumpkins decorated in theme-specific style are placed on the Main Street balconies and windowsills. You can see all decorations that are included in the Halloween season for free. However, only with party ticket can you join the exclusive entertaining activities, get sweets, take part in trick-or-treating, and meet characters.
Halloween on the High Seas
Also, if you enjoy Disney Cruise vacation, remember that for this time of the year, Disney offers Halloween on the High Seas event that includes theme-specific entertainment, trick-or-treating on board, and character meets. It is an absolutely amazing alternative to or complement of MNSSHP if you plan to attend Disney Cruise in the upcoming season!
MNSSHP vs. Oogie Boogie Bash
For Disneyland Park lovers, the Halloween party that takes place in West-Coast Disney is called Oogie Boogie Bash. Tickets sell out equally fast, there is no Hocus Pocus Spelltacular show, and usually, this celebration features some different characters. However, both parties are really amazing, so choosing either MNSSHP or Oogie Boogie Bash becomes a matter of preferences.
Everything You’re Googling About MNSSHP
What time does Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party start and end?
The party officially runs from 7:00 PM to midnight. However, party ticket holders can enter Magic Kingdom as early as 4:00 PM on the day of the event.
How early do MNSSHP tickets sell out?
Very early. The last three consecutive years saw every single party date sell out. October weekends and Halloween night tend to go first. Early August and weekday September dates hold availability the longest.
Can adults trick-or-treat at MNSSHP?
Absolutely! Every guest (adults included) receives a complimentary trick-or-treat bag at check-in. Candy stations are open to all ages with no restrictions whatsoever.
What candy do they give out at MNSSHP?
Disney partners with Mars Wrigley, so you’ll find M&Ms, Snickers, Twix, Skittles, 3 Musketeers, and Starburst at the treat trails. Each guest also typically receives a full-size bag of M&Ms when they pick up their treat bag.
Is there an allergy-friendly option for trick-or-treating?
Yes! Request a teal-colored treat bag at the start of the party. You’ll collect tokens at each treat station instead of candy, then exchange them at a designated location for allergy-friendly treats!
Do you need a separate ticket for MNSSHP if you already have a Magic Kingdom ticket?
Yes. MNSSHP is a separately ticketed event. It does not replace a standard Magic Kingdom admission. If you want both a full day at the park and to attend the party, you’ll need to purchase both tickets separately.
What characters can you only meet at MNSSHP?
Several! Jack Skellington & Sally, the Hitchhiking Ghosts, Dr. Facilier, Captain Barbosa, Elvis Stitch, Pooh & Friends in Halloween costumes, and villain roamers like Mother Gothel and Cruella de Vil are all exclusive (or near-exclusive) to the party!
Can you wear a Disney character costume to MNSSHP?
Yes — adults 14 and older can wear character costumes. However, you cannot sign autographs or pose for photos as that character for other guests. Your face must remain visible at all times (no full masks), and the costume must meet Disney’s general dress guidelines.
What rides are open during MNSSHP?
Most attractions operate during the party. Select rides get special Halloween overlays or atmospheric lighting enhancements — Space Mountain and Mad Tea Party typically get spooky lighting tweaks that you can only experience during the party!
What is a Magic Shot at MNSSHP?
Magic Shots are special digital photo effects added by Disney PhotoPass photographers during the party. They can add characters or supernatural elements to your photo — like the Headless Horseman appearing to ride past you, or Oogie Boogie glowing in the moon above you.
Is MNSSHP worth it for adults without kids?
Yes, genuinely. Many MNSSHP attendees are adults who come for the exclusive entertainment, the costume opportunity, specialty food, rare character meets, and overall atmosphere. It’s very much an adult-friendly event, and one of Disney’s most beloved!
What’s the best date to attend MNSSHP?
A Tuesday or Wednesday in early-to-mid September tends to offer the best balance of crowd levels, comfortable temperatures, and competitive pricing. August dates are also excellent values if your schedule allows.
