Epcot will be getting an all-new nighttime spectacular show called “Luminous: The Symphony of Us” debuting on December 5, 2023. This new show will replace the interim Epcot Forever show and will feature fireworks, fountains, lasers, lighting effects, and music over World Showcase Lagoon.
Show Details
Luminous: The Symphony of Us is being produced for the Walt Disney Company’s 100 Years of Wonder anniversary celebration happening at Epcot from September 2022 through December 2023.The show is meant to “unite us through commonalities of the heart in a dazzling display of fireworks, lasers, music and light” according to Disney. It will feature an original musical composition along with classic Disney songs woven together. The goal of the show is to “remind us that we’re more alike than different, connecting our hearts together as one”. Luminous aims to be inspiring and emotional, touching guests’ hearts through the power of music, storytelling, and spectacle.
Show Technology
Luminous will incorporate the latest in nighttime entertainment technology including:
- Pyrotechnics: Fireworks launched from locations around World Showcase Lagoon.
- Fountains: Dancing fountains and water screens synchronized to the show.
- Lasers: State-of-the-art laser projections across the lagoon.
- Lighting: Advanced LED lighting effects on Spaceship Earth and the countries of World Showcase.
- Projection Mapping: Potentially on Spaceship Earth and the country pavilions.
The show will likely reuse some technical infrastructure from the previous Epcot Forever and Harmonious shows, but also add new technical elements.
Music
The musical score for Luminous is being composed by Pinar Toprak, who previously wrote music for Epcot’s Harmonious show and Captain Marvel. The soundtrack will feature an original central theme along with instrumental renditions of classic Disney songs. There were reportedly some production delays with reworking parts of the musical score, but the music will be ready for the show’s December debut.
Show Location
Luminous will take place over World Showcase Lagoon, similar to previous Epcot nighttime shows. Guests will be able to view from anywhere around the lagoon. Some of the best viewing spots will likely be in the World Showcase Promenade and on the bridge between France and the UK. Disney has not announced any special dining packages for the show yet, but they often offer dining packages for IllumiNations, Harmonious, and Epcot Forever in the past. Packages may be announced closer to the show’s opening.
Opening Date
Luminous: The Symphony of Us will officially open at Epcot on December 5, 2023 as part of the Disney100 celebration. The show was originally planned to debut in September or October 2022, but was pushed back to December, likely to allow enough time for production and rehearsals. Epcot’s nighttime spectaculars are always highly anticipated by guests, and Luminous aims to continue the park’s reputation for awe-inspiring and emotional nighttime entertainment. The new show should help draw guests to Epcot in the evenings during the busy holiday season.
