New Disney Lorcana Cards: Into the Inklands Released

Disney Lorcana, the highly anticipated trading card game, is set to release its third installment – “Into the Inklands” on February 23, 2024 at local game stores and select Disney Parks. Large retailers and shopDisney will follow with availability starting March 8th. This new set introduces over 200 cards with brand-new artwork, an immersive storyline, and most excitingly, a new card type called Locations.

As an Illumineer in the world of Lorcana, you’ll embark on a quest across the Inklands, searching for lore scattered by a recent flood unleashed accidentally by Martin, one of the three original Illumineers. The Inklands set draws upon new Disney story franchises including DuckTales, TaleSpin and Treasure Planet, while also expanding on beloved characters and locales from the first two sets.

New Card Type: Locations

The biggest change coming in Into the Inklands is the addition of Location cards. These represent iconic spots from various Disney movies and TV shows. Locations enter play in the “active” state, meaning their abilities and effects can be utilized immediately.

Some revealed Location cards include:

  • Forbidden Mountain – Maleficent’s Castle (2 Ink cost)
  • Tiana’s Palace – Jazz Restaurant
  • The Queen’s Castle – Mirror Room
  • Fang – River City
  • RLS Legacy – Solar Galleon
  • Belle’s House – Cottage

Characters can move onto Location cards by paying that Location’s move cost, indicated in the upper left. This activates any Location abilities and effects printed on the card. Characters on Locations are still considered “in play” but cannot move back to the main battlefield. Notably, Locations generate Lore for their controller at the start of each turn, making them strategic assets. To remove opposing Locations, you must deal damage to them equal to or exceeding their Willpower value. However, Locations are not affected by card effects that target Characters specifically.

Character Interactions with Locations

Into the Inklands introduces Characters with abilities that trigger upon moving to a Location, opening up new synergies and strategies. For example:

  • Peter Pan – Lost Boy Leader: Once per turn, if you move Peter Pan to a Location, gain Lore equal to that Location’s Lore.
  • Minnie Mouse – Funky Spelunker: Minnie Mouse gets +2 to her Challenge value while she’s in a Location.

Other cards will also interact with the Location mechanic in novel ways yet to be revealed.

New Characters and Franchises

In addition to the new Location cards, Into the Inklands brings in characters from several Disney animated series:

  • DuckTales: Scrooge McDuck – Richest Duck in the World
  • TaleSpin: Kit Cloudkicker
  • Treasure Planet: Jim Hawkins and more crew from the RLS Legacy

Classic characters like Pluto, Perdita, Pongo, and Stitch also join the fray in new forms, such as:

  • Stitch – Covert Agent
  • Tinker Bell – Very Clever Fairy

Card Rarities and Variations

As with previous Lorcana sets, Into the Inklands will feature cards in 6 rarity tiers: Amber, Amethyst, Emerald, Ruby, Sapphire, and Steel. Each card is available in a non-foil and foil treatment.

The 204 card set also includes:

  • 4 Puzzle cards (1 per booster pack)
  • 12 Enchanted cards (secret rares numbered above 204)

Unique art treatments, like the hand-drawn Sapphire cards by John Loren and Grace Tran, return for select cards as well.
