Mario Kart: Bowser's Challange

Rides

Super Nintendo World’s crown jewel is “Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge,” a state-of-the-art attraction that blends augmented reality with classic theme park thrills. Guests can also look forward to interactive areas like Mount Beanpole and Bowser’s Castle, where the environment itself becomes part of the adventure.

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge

Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is the signature ride of Super Nintendo World. This ride is an augmented reality dark ride that serves as the anchor attraction of the park. The ride officially opened on February 17, 2023.

Ride Experience

Guests put on special goggles and collect coins on iconic Mario Kart courses. The ride is designed to be equally challenging to guests of all ages, regardless of gaming experience. As part of Team Mario, guests steer through courses underwater and in the clouds to compete for the Golden Cup. Along the way, there are piranha plants, sewage pipes, and, of course, Bowser. The ride is repeatable and has a variety of potential outcomes.

The four-person vehicles, modeled after “karts” from Mario Kart 8, follow a set path on a rail track. Guests attach the AR visors to the AR lenses in the vehicles, to view the Mario characters racing alongside them. Guests rotate their AR-wearing heads around to aim their Koopa Shell ammo, and press a button on their steering wheel to fire the shells at characters within the augmented reality. Guests accumulate points during the ride.

Bowser's Castle

Interactive Areas

Bowser’s Castle

Bowser’s Castle serves as the queue building for the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ride. The queue winds through the corridors of the castle, showcasing various elements from the Super Mario games. The first room of the queue mimics the video game subseries, Yoshi’s Island, filled with beanstalks, gem-filled caves, and Yoshi coins. From there, guests enter the second part of the queue, which mainly consists of the interior of Bowser’s Castle.

The castle has multiple rooms, including a study, which features many books and photos referring to various Super Mario games, and an assembly room, where Bob-ombs and Bullet Bills are manufactured right in front of you. The castle is designed to be imposing and immersive, providing guests with a sense of being in the world of Super Mario.

The castle also features a massive statue of Bowser, lessons on how the mechanical “Bob-ombs” are made, and Bowser’s shrine to Princess Peach. These interactive areas at Super Nintendo World offer guests a chance to immerse themselves in the world of Super Mario, providing a unique and engaging experience.

Mount Beanpole

Mount Beanpole

Mount Beanpole is a large, towering landmark that sits at the heart of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Hollywood. This interactive area is filled with layers of details that bring the world of Super Mario to life. As you explore Mount Beanpole, you can spot Goombas, Piranha Plants, Thwomps, coins, ? Blocks, and Koopa Troopas moving around the facade of the land. The area is designed to be fully immersive, with high castle walls around the border and entrances and exits through warp pipes

Enhancing the Experience

Both Mount Beanpole and Bowser’s Castle feature interactive gameplay elements that engage guests and enhance their experience. With the purchase of a Power-Up Band, guests can punch ? Blocks to collect digital coins, beat the four Key Challenges, and collect keys from Goomba, Koopa Troopa, Piranha Plant, and Thwomp interactive activities. These activities not only provide fun and entertainment but also gamify the guest experience, making visitors feel like they’re active participants in the world of Super Mario

There are no specific age restrictions for these areas, and they are described as fun for everyone, whether they’re experienced Nintendo gamers or newcomers. However, for the Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge ride, which is located inside Bowser’s Castle, there are height restrictions. Riders who are 40–48 inches (122 cm) tall require a supervising companion aged 14 or older.

Guests must be at least 36 inches tall, and kids between 36 and 48 inches must be accompanied by a supervising companion. It‘s also worth noting that the land is highly kinetic, with constant sounds and movement. If you or your kids have sensory sensitivity concerns, you may want to check out a few videos online to determine if the experience is right for you

Friends meet n greet

Character Meet & Greets

At Super Nintendo World, guests have the opportunity to meet and interact with some of their favorite characters from the Nintendo universe. These meet and greets are a unique opportunity for fans to get up close and personal with these beloved characters. Here are the details about the character meet and greets at Super Nintendo World:

Mario and Luigi

Mario and Luigi

Mario and Luigi usually do a greeting together in the center of the land at their designated meeting spot. Their meet-and-greets are listed on opposite sides of a center block/pipe feature, but guests typically get a photo with them both together. However, this can change, so it’s recommended to check what’s happening during your visit. One unique detail about the character greets at Super Nintendo World is that the characters speak in short catch phrases, and their mouths move. They can either blink their eyes or move their eyes.

Peach

Princess Peach

Princess Peach greets guests at the gazebo near her castle. The characters can speak English during their meet and greet, which adds to the immersive experience.

Toad

Toad

A Toad meet and greet has joined Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach in Super Nintendo World. The new meet and greet location is near the entrance to the land, by Princess Peach’s castle. It’s to the right side of Peach’s meet and greet gazebo and is designated by a stanchion queue. Guests can meet him throughout the day.

Additional Information

We think it’s important to note that the meet-and-greet experiences can sometimes feel rushed due to the crowds, so guests should keep this in mind when planning their visit. There are signs at both locations that will tell you the next scheduled arrival time for the characters. The characters also interact with guests wearing a Power-Up Band, which adds another layer of interactivity to the meet and greet experience.

The character meet and greets offer guests a unique opportunity to interact with their favorite Nintendo characters in a fun and immersive environment. Whether you’re a fan of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad, there’s something for everyone at these meet and greets.

Activities

Engage in Key Challenges throughout the land with your Power-Up Band, which keeps your score and lets you collect digital coins, adding a competitive edge to your visit.

Key Challenges at Super Nintendo World

Super Nintendo World offers guests an interactive experience with Key Challenges, which are essential for those looking to engage in the ultimate showdown with Bowser Jr. These challenges are spread throughout the park and are designed to be reminiscent of mini-games from the Mario Party series. To participate in these challenges, guests need a Power-Up Band, which allows them to collect digital coins and keys that are integral to the gameplay experience.

Overview of Key Challenges

There are four main Key Challenges located around Super Nintendo World. Guests need to collect at least three keys from these challenges to gain access to Bowser Jr.’s lair for the final boss battle. The challenges are designed to be accessible and enjoyable for guests of all ages and gaming experience levels. Some challenges require teamwork, and if guests are alone, park staff will assist in pairing them with other guests to meet the player requirements for each game.

The Challenges

Goomba

Goomba Crazy Crank

The Goomba Crazy Crank challenge is located near the entrance of Super Nintendo World. Players must roll over a Goomba by spinning a wheel at a consistent and rapid pace. The challenge includes a musical cue that speeds up as the time limit approaches, adding to the urgency of the game. Success in this challenge results in the Goomba falling back, allowing the player to collect a key.

Piranha plant

Piranha Plant Nap Mishap

In the Piranha Plant Nap Mishap, players work as a team to turn off several alarm clocks that have woken up a giant Piranha Plant. The goal is to silence all the alarms to put the Piranha Plant back to sleep. Teamwork is emphasized in this challenge, making it easier to play with others.

Thwomp

Thwomp Panel Panic

Thwomp Panel Panic is a solo challenge where players interact with a giant screen. The objective is to turn every box the same color by tapping them. This challenge is hidden in a cave to the right of the Mario Kart attraction and is considered one of the more enjoyable challenges due to its interactive screen.

Koopa Troopa

Koopa Troopa POWer Punch

The Koopa Troopa POWer Punch requires players to time their punches on a POW Block to coincide with the movements of a Koopa Troopa. The challenge is to hit the Koopa Troopa without being struck by Bullet Bills that occasionally soar across the screen. Players must also use the power of the Fire Flower to toss fireballs at Bowser Jr. and his shadows in the second round of the challenge.

Bowser Jr.

Final Boss Battle: Shadow Showdown

After collecting three keys, guests can participate in the Shadow Showdown, which is the final boss battle against Bowser Jr. This augmented reality experience requires players to duck under Bullet Bills, punch Bomb-Ombs, and throw fireballs to defeat Bowser Jr. The outcome of this battle is determined by the players’ ability to complete these tasks successfully.

The Key Challenges at Super Nintendo World are an integral part of the interactive experience, offering guests a chance to immerse themselves in the world of Super Mario. These challenges are not only fun but also provide a competitive edge to the visit, as guests can collect keys and coins to progress to the final battle with Bowser Jr. The challenges are designed to be accessible to all guests, regardless of their gaming experience, and provide an opportunity for teamwork and social interaction within the park.
